The base product is free: creating, managing, and publishing a CMA-compliant price list costs nothing. We keep it that way by asking you to use it the way a working veterinary practice would - not the way a scraper, bot, or abuser would.
This page describes what "fair use" looks like. It is deliberately framed as reasonable use for a working practice. If you are getting close to a limit for a legitimate reason, get in touch - we would rather have a conversation than having to impose restrictions.
This policy is referenced by, but separate from, the Terms of Service. We may update it from time to time without requiring you to re-accept the Terms, provided the changes remain consistent with the "reasonable use" principle.
#Suggested limits
The numbers below are starting points for the base product. They are not hard caps by default - we will contact you before taking any action.
| Thing | Suggested fair-use limit |
|---|---|
| Price lists per practice | [TODO: 10] |
| Branches per practice | [TODO: 25] |
| Publishes per month (all lists combined) | [TODO: 500] |
| Whitelisted embed domains per practice | [TODO: 10] |
| Widget loads per month (across all your embeds) | [TODO: 1,000,000] |
| Stored pricing data per practice | [TODO: 50 MB] |
| Audit history retained | [TODO: 24 months of versioned snapshots] |
| API calls (if/when a public API is offered) | [TODO: to be defined] |
If your practice genuinely needs more - for example, a large group with many branches, or a site that gets unusual amounts of legitimate traffic - tell us and we will almost certainly say yes.
#What is not fair use
The following are not fair use and may lead to throttling, suspension, or termination under the Terms:
- Automated scraping of the widget or published data in a way designed to bypass the CDN or overwhelm origin servers.
- Creating multiple accounts to avoid fair-use limits.
- Using Pricebook.vet as general-purpose file hosting, a CDN, or a marketing site unrelated to veterinary pricing.
- Publishing deliberately misleading, placeholder, or non-veterinary pricing data.
- Using embed domains that you do not control.
For the full list of prohibited conduct, see the Acceptable Use Policy.
#What happens if you exceed fair use
- We will email you to let you know what we are seeing and why it is a problem.
- We will suggest a fix (for example: consolidating lists, adjusting publish frequency, moving a high-traffic embed behind caching).
- If the behaviour continues and is clearly abusive, we may throttle or suspend service under the Terms.
We do not issue surprise bills. The base product is free, and fair-use breaches never result in a charge.
#Paid add-ons
In the future we may offer paid add-ons (for example, multi-site reporting or higher-volume embeds). Those will have their own limits, disclosed at point of sale. The base CMA-compliance product stays free.
